Dr Kate Hoy BBNSc (Hons) DPsych (Clin Neuro)

Dr Kate Hoy is a Research Fellow / Clinical Neuropsychologist in the Brain Stimulation and Neurosciences team at MAPrc. Her broad area of research interest is the impact of brain stimulation in psychiatry and on cognition; more specifically she is interested in both using non-invasive brain stimulation to treat cognitive symptoms and in the preservation of cognition following seizure therapy.

Kate has been with the centre since 2002, initially as an Honours student and then as a Post Graduate Student. Kate graduated from the degree of Doctor of Clinical Neuropsychology in 2007.  Her doctoral research investigated motor dysfunction as a functional correlate of deficient inhibition in schizophrenia. Kate became a full time MAPrc staff member at the beginning of 2008.

Since completing her doctorate Kate has been involved in the co-ordination of a number of randomised controlled clinical trials of brain stimulation for patients with major depression, bipolar depression and schizophrenia. In addition, as a qualified Clinical Neuropsychologist she provides neuropsychological input on project development as well as training staff in the conduct of cognitive assessments. In 2009 Kate was awarded a NHMRC for a postdoctoral training fellowship to investigate the cognitive outcomes of a novel brain stimulation technique (Magnetic Seizure Therapy) for the treatment of depression.

In 2010, Kate was CIC on a successful NHMRC Project Grant comparing MST to ECT. Also in 2010, she was an inaugural Monash Researcher Accelerator Program Recipient, awarded to the top performing 3% of research fellows at Monash University. Kate Has also been awarded the 2010 Deans Award for Early Career Research Excellence. She is currently the Team Coordinator of the Brain Stimulation and Neurosciences team at MAPrc.
