Karen Harrison

 

Karen Harrison, BA Psych.
 
Karen Harrison started at MAPrc in July of 2009 as the Project Officer, Education and Training for the new DOJ funded Victorian Statewide Problem Gambling and Mental Health Partnership Program.
 
 Her experience in nursing spans 15 years, where she started her training in the United States Navy as Hospital Corpsman and received specialized training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas in combat stress and PTSD. After discharge from the Navy, Karen graduated in 1998 from nursing school and worked as a Mental Health nurse, as well as general, OB/GYN and Paediatric nurse.
 
Karen graduated from EastCarolinaUniversity, Greenville, North Carolina in 2000 with a Bachelor of Psychology. She continued to work in the medical field as a Patient Representative at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital. After leaving the nursing field, Karen pursued an interest and love of teaching at an inner city school in North Carolina, where she taught 7th grade Science and Health. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, she worked for a Cryogenic tissue bank as a Tissue Donation Coordinator.
 
Karen moved to Melbourne, Australia in January of 2008 and is currently studying at WaldenUniversity through online correspondence.  She will be graduating in 2010 with her Master of Public Health.
 
Karen currently lives on the beach in Chelsea with her husband, two children and two dogs.
