Two workshops by

Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre and La Trobe University
Two workshops will provide skills in empirically-supported methods in the management of psychotic symptoms which can be incorporated into routine practice with people with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
Workshop 1 (Mon 17 May 2010 ): Hallucinations
This workshop will cover engaging the client in discussing their hallucinatory experiences, cognitive behavioural assessment of hallucinations, developing a shared model of voice experience, enhancing coping strategies and targeting beliefs about voices.
Workshop 2 (Tue 18 May 2010 ): Delusions
This workshop will cover engaging with delusional clients, identifying appropriate targets for intervention, helping the client to develop alternative explanations for psychotic experiences, and methods for reducing delusional conviction and preoccupation.
Workshops will be suitable for mental health professionals of all disciplines, including both existing CBT practitioners, and those without formal training in CBT who wish to integrate CBT techniques into their routine work.
About the presenter: Dr Neil Thomas MAPS AFBPsS is a clinical psychologist who has specialised in psychological interventions for psychosis for the past ten years. He currently runs the a specialist hearing voices clinic at the Monash Alfred Psychiatric Research Centre, and the psychological interventions for psychosis program in Alfred Psychiatry. He is actively involved in research into psychological processes and treatments for psychosis, including a current major clinical trial of a third wave behaviour therapy (acceptance and commitment therapy) for chronic psychosis.
