Bazedoxifene in women with schizophrenia

About the trial

This is a 12 week trial of bazedoxifene, which is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). Bazedoxifene uses the positive effects of estrogen, such as improving emotional symptoms, memory, information processing, concentration, and bone density, without affecting other parts of the body, such as the breast and ovaries.

What's involved

1) Being randomised to receive either daily bazedoxifene or placebo (inactive substance) for 12 weeks in addition to your current medications

2) 6 Visits to our centre to see our friendly team

3) Completing some questionnaires about your demographics, symptoms, coping style, mood, history of trauma, and some tasks on a computer and with paper and pen, to test cognition (memory, attention etc)

4) Blood and saliva samples at three visits

5) Reimbursement for travel and participation

Who is Eligible?

Women with a current diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or schizophreniform disorder
